Lie to Me Season 1-Ep 3

A Perfect Score

When the Lightman Group is called in to investigate the murder of a judges murdered daughter they begin to investigate her private school and see who might be responsible including even her mother.   Meanwhile they also investigate rather or not a NASA test pilot crashed a test shuttle on purpose or on accident.

While Lightman interviews students and Gillian the pilot both of them uncover new and surprising things about both cases.   More than one person at the school seems to be hiding something and as the group looks further into it they find out that one of the teachers was being paid money to take tests for the students in the school and this helps uncover the truth of who murdered her.

Meanwhile the other team uncovers the fact that the NASA test pilot was being given anti-depressant by his wife without his knowledge.   This caused him to crash the test shuttle which closes this case out as well pretty quickly.  This episode was one of the weaker of the first season though as always it helped establish the main characters more and how they work together.

Lie to Me Season 1- Ep 2

Moral Waiver

At the end of the first episode the Lightman group hires a new employee, Ria Torres who becomes the fourth member of the team and in her first full episode she goes with Doctor Lightman to investigate rather or not a woman in the US military is lying about being raped by her commanding officer.    Meanwhile at the same time Eli and Gillian Foster work to see if a basketball star for a college is taking a bribe from the college which is against NCAA regulations.

After speaking with Sheila Lake the woman accusing Staff Sgt. Russell Scott of rape Cal Lightman comes to the conclusion that she is lying and thus he begins to uncover the truth after interviewing her fellow female officers, there is something off about Sgt. Scott but its hard to say exactly what it is, until he uncovers that there was another female officer who went AWOL.

Meanwhile Doctor Foster and Loker uncover that Taft is keeping a secret and also what the secret might be after looking at some tapes of Earl White and whats going on with him while he’s on the court.   They speak with Earl White and find out that he is in pain because he has arthritis and its so painful that he will never play as a professional.  Still it’s against regulations and the money has to be given back despite his family issues.    They set up a fund so that he can still go to college for the next four years.

The truth about the AWOL solider Private Rebecca Metz she was raped by her commanding officer Staff Sgt. Scott who forced her to have sex with him otherwise he would punish her.  I a little unclear on why none of the other women were raped if they were all on the same convoy?  Was there maybe a reason for this I am not sure, it is perhaps that none of them were on the convoy before they just heard the rumors from other men in the same group.  That does fit.

The Episode ends with the resolutions of the story line but also gives a few clues into the lives of the characters on the show.

(This episode is not as complete as other episodes because I am reviewing it after having already watched it a few days ago and not as I review it.)

Lie to Me Season 1-Ep 1

Pilot

The first episode of Lie to Me introduces us to Doctor Cal Lightman and the Lightman group whose job it is to find out who is lying and why they are lying for the police force and various other organizations including even the Mayors office from time to time.   The first few seconds of the first episode helps this get established, we see Doctor Lightman up on stage talking about a video that he has and how it shows the expressions of people.   Before seeing this episode I had never realized how much people show emotions on their face.

Doctor Lightman and his group are tasked quickly after this opening sequence to find out if a student killed his teacher because he was found fleeing the scene.  This is where we really get to see for the first time how Doctor Lightman and his people Doctor Gillian Foster and Eli Loker work towards finding out the truth.    At the same time that Doctor Lightman is trying to find out if the student really did kill his teacher Doctor Foster is busy trying to find out if a politician is lying about having sex with a call girl.

The student is hiding the fact that he was sexually attracted to his teacher and taking photos of her at her house, though he wasn’t sleeping with her.   He actually saw her dead and when he realized this he ran and the cops caught him believing that he killed the teacher.   While this is going on the other two interview the strip club call girl who is very young and beautiful but its obvious that she and the politician are not sleeping with one another though he is paying her a lot of money.

Finding out that the student didn’t do it leads to the principal and then we find out that a female student at the high school is pregnant and keeping it secret which leads to another revelation….she’s sleeping with the principal and the teacher found out thus the principal to keep it quiet that he was sleeping with a student and she got pregnant.    At the same time the politician reveals that the girl he was seeing was his daughter that he gave up for adoption years later and now he’s trying to protect her and help her go back to school.   He does this even though it means the end of his political career.

This is what Lie to me is about, people and their stories and what is going on with them.  The members of the lightman group and their lives intersect with their cases as well and we get to know them a little bit more each episode starting with this the first one, the episode that got me hooked.

(Note: the first 8 episodes of lie to me are not going to be as complete of reviews because I am reviewing them after watching them instead of while watching.)
